How pointless was Massa's gift to Alonso

After Silverstone the gap between Alonso and Massa was 31 points.

Now after Belgium it's 32 and that includes the 10 "free" points Massa gave Alonso at the German Grand Prix.

Wow that was worth it then!

Front tyres design hurting Schumacher

The peculiar design of this year's front tyres are the main reason why Michael Schumacher has struggled in his return to Formula 1.

That is the view of Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn, who reckons Schumacher's driving style is not suited to the Bridgestone rubber.

I find it very interesting to read all the excuses coming out of Mercedes for the reasons behind Schumacher's poor form this season.

The latest thought process is that the design of the Mercedes is especially alien to Schuie's liking. Indeed Button has even said it's his fault because BrawnGP developed it for his liking before they realised it wouldn't be him staying on at the team

My thought is that although this is almost certainly true, probably the most significant reason is the restriction on testing. Without the hundreds of hours of testing he enjoyed at Ferrari, he has been unable to learn how to get the best from the tyres.

Without the massive advantage (and fabulous "move-over" contract) he enjoyed at Ferrari, he's not looking so good. Of course it must be the tyres fault the playing field is much more level now...

Ralf, can you confirm?

Ways to make Formula 1 even better, number 52

...add a helmet cam to the onboard feeds...

The onboard camera has for a long time been TOO good. This might sound like an oxymoron, but the perfectly clear picture gives very little idea of how violent life is in an F1 car. You see none of the vibrations, bumps and forces at work and it looks easy, like a playstation game.

However Ferrari have released a helmet cam video of their "filming day" e.g. a test session in disguise, and boy is it good. Like late 80s onboard footage there's plenty of feeling of speed.

I really think making the TV feed awe inspiring and spectacular is very important for the image of F1 and along with bringing titanium skid blocks, this kind of footage should be used to help the spectacle.

Goodwood Festival of Speed Mclaren MP4-8 Onboard

Having already demonstrated his cool credentials on Fifth Gear, Bruno Senna upped the ante at the weekend by filming himself driving down the Goodwood Hill in his Uncle Ayrton's old McLaren MP4/8 (1993) at last weekend's Festival of Speed.

How is that cool you ask? Why, driving an F1 car one handed while filming on your mobile phone of course!
